Reconnecting weekend

Well, I would say that the above was what the weekend was all about......but it wasn't...... and I am glad. Keith and I needed some time to be with each other and really reconnect. Life gets busy and all the "to do's" become more important than the "want to's". I was missing my man.
This weekend we got to concentrate on the want to's.
Did we do a whole lot? NOPE!
Did we have an agenda? Nope!
Was it beautiful? Yes!
We headed into areas where we had not yet been ....thank heaven for the invention of the GPS. Although there were times when I am not sure if the little lady knew where she was or where she was sending us. And on a side note.......Have you ever wondered why they put a female voice on the GPS devices? I don't know if that helps us as female back seat drivers or hinders us. ;)
At least with her.........he does have the opption to turn the volume off. :)
We did have fun on the back roads..one of my favorite things...and stumbled on some small towns having their fall or heritage festivals.
These pictures were taken at The Appalachian Heritage Festival in a town called Blountville.
The Sulivan County Historical Preservation Association was responsible for this event. Money raised help the historical society keep up some of the towns historical sites.
It was a good thing it was only in the high 60's or this sweet lady giving tours of an old Inn would have been in trouble. How great to be having jean weather in September........not something
I am used to after living in Louisiana.
There were all kinds of booths and we ended up buying some homemade apple butter from a local church. I was tempted for just a second to adopt a dog....one of the booths....but once I thought of the house training that would have to take place in our camper the answer was--NO.
After we left this little town we traveled on another hour or two and stumbled on another town having their fall days. And because Keith saw a outdoor sportsman's shop I was able to bribe him to stop again to look around. I loved that they shut down main street and people were everywhere mingling and having fun. Fall was in the air and people were just out enjoying it!
We spent the weekend bouncing back and forth between Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Keith let me sleep Saturday morning while he went out and spied out the territory and picked up breakfast............breakfast in bed---it was very nice.
Then he told me that we were only about thirty miles from the Virginia line so I told him we should cross on over. It was beautiful! The day turned a little rainy but it was still so nice.
Holding tight to my camera...while hanging out the window... I caught some trees heading into fall. Excuse the blur....that is what happens when you are going the speed limit while trying to take pictures. I don't think we were in a hurry to get anywhere but we would have gotten NOWHERE if we had stopped everytime I wanted to a take a picture.
As we were heading into the mountains the clouds started decending. It was cozy in the warm truck....and the view was awe inspiring. Have I ever mentioned how close the mountains make me feel to God? Yes, I figured I had......but I can never say it enough!
I just thought this was cool. And of course there were all kinds of spiritual applications going through my head.......but I won't go into that now.
I finally got Keith to stop so that I could take a close up of the color. Tracy (from the Maw Maw club) gave me some new water color tools for my b-day and I would love to see if I can get some of this color on paper. It has been a long time...we shall see.
And rounding the mountain toward home this was the view of the sky.
"Sigh"

I enjoyed my reconnecting weekend with my man. :)
I also had some great time complimenting and communicating with my God about the fantastic job He did with creation.
Hmmmm.......it was a great weekend.

Wow, that sounds like a wonderful weekend! You got some great pictures, too. The one with the sun peering over the clouds is beautiful. A lot of times when I take pictures, I see it as God giving ME the perfect backdrop, ya know? Like, how often do people get to see the things I get pictures of? I mean, I am hardly a professional, but the pictures are just beautiful!

Thank you for your prayers for Sandy.. I spoke with Sandy and I told her that there are many beautiful ladies praying for her.. She is in good spirits, her husband is not doing as well as she is.. I spoke with him and he has to take the baby home today..... New Father with new baby and wife facing open heart surgery is a tough pill to swallow........ Remember David when you pray.....

What fun! What a nice reward after all the recent upheaval (I'm struggling to come up with the right word). Stretching? Yes, first you stretch your faith muscles and then you rest them. :)

PS: Then they stay stronger!

Sharon,

What a wonderful weekend. I love that old log cabin and especially the chimneys. You don't see those in our part of the country anymore. They are a work of art.

Festivals are lots of fun and I'm glad you and Keith stopped to enjoy them. And the photo of that magnificent tree all dressed in her autumn glory. God made the earth so magnificient for us to enjoy.

I love the mountains in your area. They are much like the ones on Cape Breton Island. They do make you feel closer to God. I have seen the Smokies in all of their autumn splendor and they are breathtaking.

Take care, my friend. I'm glad you and Keith got away for a while. We all need that sometimes.

Blessings,
Mary

First, I love the new look of your blog. Beautiful!

Second, what a fun weekend! Wonder if that cabin's for sale? (I'm sure you've already thought of that).

And three, I am always closer to God in the mountains. It's just so easy to find him there.

Oh, it looks like you had a fantastic weekend, Sharon. Reconnecting with our beloveds is wonderful, isn't it?
Yes, the mountains make me feel closer to God too :) - Marvelous photos you have taken. Too bad we really don't have a change of seasons here in AZ - unless I could talk my beloved in to going up North soon :)

Thank you so much for sharing about your travels with us.

Be blessed today and always...

I really like your blog. I am new at blogging and am finding some wonderful blogs and wonderful people. I know the feeling that the mountains give you. I too have the same feeling. Your trip sounds just great. I am going to the mountains of Tucker county, WV next week. Our wedding anniversary is Oct. 8th and we always try to go on a little fall vacation. I will be posting about that trip on my blog when we get back. I'm glad I hapapened upon your blog. I will be following it. God bless.
