Empty your cup

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who knew all the right answers?
They may come to you for advice or help and as soon as you get something out of your mouth you hear the words....Yes, I know but......
I have been here........the know it all was me.
Coming to God holding up my cup of need.....and yet when He begins the process of pouring....my cup is already full. Full of my own knowledge........and smarts.
I picture Him looking into my face tenderly and with very obvious hand motions.....showing me that I need to empty my cup.
Realizing that I was asking Him to warm up my goodness with a little of His.......
shame......repentance.
Tipping my cup........I now place it on the saucer and sit still.
This next song has really played in my heart quite often the last few weeks.
Peace be still
Peace be still
Please be still and KNOW that I am God.

Sharon,

I agree that many times we are not still enough to hear God's voice. Great post, my friend.

Blessings,
Mary

Oh yes.......... I am the talker and HE has to listen...... HE has had to work on that these 30 years...... I was born again one day and ready to save the world the next........ I had a hard time pouring out my cup so HE could fill it up......... I think I am still learning.......... But of course I am........ I will always pouring out for HIM to fill.......... great post

I had a conversation like this with my daughter last night over math. Thanks for reminding me that I do the same thing with God. I read this post yesterday, and was reminded of you and what you are experiencing right now in your life: http://growinwithit.blogspot.com/2008/09/street-signs-of-my-life.html

I'm afraid I've been on both sides of that cup :) I am so grateful that the Lord forgives me when I think He needs my help and fills me when He knows I need His!

Blessings to you today!
